Built according to the city plan of Hippodamus in three floors, it is well preserved. Excavations by Rudolf Neumann, Professor F. Miltner and Selahattin Kantar revealed this three-level compound structure in a rectangular form, with stairs in the front.

The Agora of Smyrna has been arranged to form the present day Agora Open Air Museum. The Agora has an ancient theatre that belongs to the 19th century, which is decorated with sketching done by a Prussian consul of the period.

The museum is supported by columns and arches that surround a large area, having 120 metres long and 180 metres wide courtyard. In the north gate of the museum, one can find figures of goddess Vesta and alter of Zeus.
